What Is The Gospel? The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the good news of how God has provided for our salvation and what he calls us to do to receive it. God created us for himself, to share a unique, personal relationship with him. Everything was right in our world as we knew and loved God and enjoyed the blessing of his love and relationship with us. Then, one day we doubted what God had said and the purpose for which he had created us. This was a simple yet clear rejection of honoring God which we all continue to do to this very day. We have believed the lie that we do not need to live for God's glory and that we will be happy loving the things of this world and not him. This choice has brought upon us all the problems we face, today, but worst of all it has broken our relationship with our Creator. But God in his mercy has provided a way back so that our relationship with him may be reconciled, once again. Since there was nothing that we could have done to truly satisfy his divine justice against our sin, he graciously sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to earth. Jesus lived the life we should have lived, loving God and fulfilling all righteousness before him. Then he was crucified on a cross in order to take our blame and to bear the wrath of God against our sin. He was raised from the dead after three days as a sign that everything he claimed to be was true and that God the Father had, indeed, accepted his sacrifice on our behalf. Now God calls each of us to turn from our sin back to him and to believe upon Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of our sin. This is the wonderful news. We can be completely forgiven by repenting of our sin and trusting what Jesus Christ has done for us, so that through faith in him we have peace with God and are made new again. |
